These Are a Few of My Favorite Things – Pt. 2

It’s a lazy Sunday here on The Midnight Goose.  Or, at least, most people consider Sundays to be lazy days, right?  Sundays around Casa de Fatasses involve JoJo and I getting up, the pre-programmed coffee maker already brewed and ready–usually with 24 Atoms Dark Matter Blend–and I make us breakfast of coffee, peanut butter toast, and banana.  Then we sit for 30 to 45 minutes, eating our breakfast, drinking our coffee, and having a morning chat.  Then JoJo gets her shower while I clean up the breakfast and coffee fixin’s–then we chat for a little bit longer before she heads off to work.  Then I pick up the house, make the bed, make sure Jolene has gone to make her peeps and poops (fairly new chore around here), do any extra chores that need to be done that day, and then get my shower.  Then I sit down to blog, write, and generally make a nuisance of myself on the interwebs.

It’s not a lazy day–but it’s a nice day.  It’s a day that starts with food, our favorite coffee, and getting to sit with each other.  And now that we have Jolene, we have a “child” to share it with–besides our human adult child, anyway.  But she lives an hour-and-a-half away…and this thought is veering off course, so…

People like Sundays.  It’s just a fact.  Even though Monday is just ’round the corner, Sundays are special.  So, for this Sunday, I thought I’d share some of my favorite things with y’all.  Things that make my days (especially Sundays) even specialer.  Yeah.  It’s a word.  Google it.  Please don’t.

So…here we go:

Hamilton Beach Single Serve & Coffee Pot Maker – JoJo and I recently bought this to replace our dinky old Mr. Coffee coffee maker–and we are so in love.  It looks super fancy–and I guess it is a little–but it’s not difficult to use.  I mean–if I was able to figure it all out without the instruction manual, anyone can.  It can make a pot of coffee, a single serving, or it can use coffee pods like a Keurig.  It almost makes wonderful Earl Grey tea–as JoJo and I found out a few weeks ago.  It’s easily programmed and has a “Bold Roast” option, and everything comes out of it tasting super delicious and…well, coffee-like.  And the best part is–you get a name brand, well built, reliable, fancy (but easy to use) coffee maker for less than $60.  I’m telling you–it will change how your morning goes when you have your coffee waiting for you when you wake up (I know programming coffee pots isn’t a new thing–but this one is soooo easy to program).  Also–I don’t do coffee pods–but you can fill the water reservoir up to 12 cups, so you can easily make cup after cup of coffee with pods without having to refill for quite a while.  Most importantly–it’s so easy to maintain and clean, and it doesn’t take any special filters or other equipment to use.  GET. ONE. NOW.

Chakir Turkish Linen Oversized Bath Towel – I got this off of Amazon for JoJo because her favorite towel was getting a little…fucked up?  Is that the right term?  Yeah.  It was jacked beyond belief.  I never get to use it–because it’s JoJo’s “special towel”, but she absolutely adores it.  And as the person that does a lot of the laundry around this piece, let me tell you–so big, so fluffy, so soft–I’m jealous.  Y’all may think I’m crazy, because one of these will run you $25, but this thing is going to last JoJo until she’s dead.  It comes in 5 different colors, so you can choose the one you like best–but I’m sure they’re all just as fluffy, comfy, and luxurious as the “Wedgewood Blue” color I bought for the missus.

20882031_322569701536568_8958837728639746722_n 24 Atoms Coffee Company (Dark Matter Blend) – This is a “micro roaster of specialty coffee in East Dallas”, and it’s the coffee of choice around Casa de Fatasses.  Currently, as far as I know, there’s no website to simply click a few buttons and have it sent to you.  However, if you visit their Facebook page, and go to the “About” tab, you can connect with them via e-mail.  They’ll be able to tell you how to get some shipped to you if you so wish.  The Dark Matter Blend is our personal favorite, but if we’re trying to avoid caffeine, we get the Honduras blend.  In fact, when we buy, we buy one big bag of each.  Luckily, we have an “inside man”.  My sister picks it up for us, and we get it from her when we go down for a visit.  It’s sooooooooooooo good.  And you’ll need a good coffee for the Hamilton Beach coffee maker you bought, right?

11 oz. Make America Read Again Coffee Mug – Do I really need to say more about this?  Besides my oversized Grumpy the Dwarf coffee mug that I got at Disney Land when I was 15 years old, this is my favorite mug.  It’s standard sized, so I can’t fit as much coffee in it as I’d like–but it definitely speaks to the liberal book nerd that is the essence of Allen T. St. Clair.  And it’s less than $20, so…come on!  You can put tea in it as well.  Or vodka.  No judgement.

Rainy Mood – this is something you don’t have to buy to enjoy.  This is one of my favorite websites for ambient background noise while I’m writing.  Totally free, totally chill, totally awesome.

A Soft Murmur – this is another ambient noise website that I use while I’m writing.  However, on this website, you can make your own mix of ambient sounds to fit your own likes.  Everything from rain, to wind, to thunder, to crickets, to a roaring fire, to even the sounds of a coffee shop, white noise, and a singing bowl can be heard here.  Soooooo soothing.

Custom Ink – Another favorite website.  Want to make a single shirt with a customized graphic and/or saying on it?  Maybe your best friend is a know-it-all and you want to print a shirt that says “Queen of Useless Shit Since 1974” on a purple t-shirt because that’s her favorite color.  I mean, I don’t know.  That seems like something someone would do.

Swiss Army Man is a movie starring Daniel Radcliffe–ya’ know, Harry Potter?–and is quite possibly the weirdest shit that I’ve seen in a very long time.  Paul Dano plays a man trapped on a desert isle, about to end his life out of desperation, when Daniel Radcliffe‘s dead body washes up on shore.  One thing leads to another, and he finds out that the dead body’s tendency to fart makes him the perfect self-propelled jetski.  So, he rides the dead body away from the island.  And it just gets weirder.  Over the course of the movie, the dead body becomes…less, dead…and the man and the dead body teach each other about life.  While the movie has a lot of crude humor (did you know that an erection can be a compass?), the movie is ultimately about joy, living life to the fullest, and just being yourself.  And the soundtrack is amazeballs.  You know that swell in your chest you feel when something really moves you?  This movie did that to me.  If you have a lazy Sunday–it’s definitely worth a watch.

Anyhoozles…Happy Sunday!

Until next time…
